Reporting to the Manager, Clinical Services, the Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the MDR department and for ensuring the MDR department effectively support the clinical program by managing, directing, organizing, and troubleshooting the workflow, equipment, and staff. Key Responsibilities
    • Manages the day-to-day operations of the MDR department encompassing the Dalhousie clinics and off site MDR locations, including managing a team of 10 unionized employees.
    • Establishes work assignments and priorities for all staff and ensures proper staff coverage for various clinical areas.
    • Maintains immunization records for MDR staff members and ensures staff get updated immunizations as required.
    • Actively participates on the Infection Prevention and Control Committee and provides critical information in developing, planning, reviewing, and updating policies and procedures for clinical care within the faculty.
    • Provides an Introductory and Advanced Infection Control Lecture during orientation week and provides hands on experience within a MDR Simulation Lab.
    • Monitors levels of supplies (dental instruments, chemicals, consumables, etc.), and orders from dental stores or external vendors; manages a regular inventory audit of instruments and trays.

    The successful candidate must provide proof of up-to-date immunization for the following: Tetanus, Diphtheria, Polio, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chicken Pox and Hepatitis B. A copy of the lab report for Hepatitis B surface antibodies must be provided along with evidence of the 2 Step Mantoux (Tuberculin) test. Annual Influenza inoculation is recommended. The successful candidate must keep their immunization status current during their employment.

    Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.
    Required Qualifications
    • Technical training required, such as completion of a Registered Central Service Technician Program (or equivalent) and a minimum of five years' experience with two years' supervisory experience (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
    • Supervisory training and scheduling experience.
    • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
    • Organizational skills are essential, as well as the ability to multi-task and set priorities.
    • Excellent communication skills.

    • Knowledge of universal precautions, infection control measures and dental knowledge.
