    Description

    The Instructor/Dental Program Director provides quality instruction to students in support of the College's commitment to Dental Assisting education. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to supervising, planning, and implementing the program.

    Salary Schedule Placement: Appropriate placement on Salary Schedule D1 IB-IV ($41 ,282 - $92,513) based on education and experience. Summer appointments are based on enrollment- Salary Schedule D1 ($12,746 - $28,612) based on education and experience. Annual Potential Salary including Summer Appointment ($54,028- $121,125)
    1. Teach up to 30 contact hours or 15-16 credit hours per semester and/or the equivalent in non-credit hours or a combination of the credit and non-credit course offerings.
    2. Instructor must be available to teach day, night, weekend classes, and training opportunities if necessary.
    3. Regular and consistent attendance at work and record/maintain student attendance records.
    4. Organize and manage the Dental Assisting Program.
    5. Recommend proposed budget and manage finalized budget.
    6. Assist with the recruiting, screening, and recommendation of faculty.
    7. Knowledgeable of and maintain Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) standards.
    8. Report and respond to all CODA communications and recommendations.
    9. Supervise, observe, and evaluate faculty and students.
    10. Maintain safety precautions in the classroom and laboratory (including Radiology lab) at all times.
    11. Provide for systematic evaluation of the program.
    12. Serve as liaison between health agencies, the community, Schools of Dentistry, appropriate state, regional and national agencies, and other divisions of the college in promoting and maintaining satisfactory relationships.
    13. Maintain, prepare, and submit required records and/or reports for the program.
    14. Maintain a program of recruitment, selection, and promotion of students.
    15. Supervise the preparation of publications, brochures, and catalogs for the program.
    16. Encourage continuing education and/or professional development for self and dental faculty.
    17. Disseminate information from administration, state, and national agencies to the dental faculty.
    18. Counsel students and faculty as necessary and serve as a resource person.
    19. Direct the development, revision, and implementation of the curriculum.
    20. Negotiate and arrange contractual agreements for clinical affiliation and attend affiliation meetings.
    21. Develop and submit to the Associate Dean a class schedule after coordination of classes with other divisions.
    22. Arrange for class coverage when an instructor is absent.
    23. Approve the final clinical rotation schedule.
    24. Develop and evaluate Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) for instructional specialty.
    25. Collaborate with other unit programs to develop and implement divisional goals.
    26. Serve on special committees and represent Health Professions as required by administration.
    27. Uses Blackboard and/or Canvas regularly to augment instruction to include the uploading of the syllabus, homework assignments, supplemental videos, lecture presentations, handouts, assignments, materials, and recorded lectures (where applicable).
    28. Agrees to participate in required college events, such as graduation, honors day programs, and other assigned events.
    29. Maintains a neat, appropriate, and professional appearance at all times.
    30. Adheres to all school and/or department policies and responds to all administrative requests in a timely professional manner.
    31. Assists every student in the development of his/her academic abilities to his/her greatest capacity.
    32. Recommend textbook adoption conjointly with faculty.
    33. Function in accordance with the philosophy, rules and regulations of the Dental Program and area clinical agencies.
    34. Work with college ADA coordinator to provide appropriate accommodations for identified students
    35. Post and maintain regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy.
    36. Participate actively and creatively in the activities of the institution.
    37. Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean, Academic Dean, Vice President, or President.

    • Master's degree preferred but a minimum of a bachelor's degree required with experience as a Dental Assistant/Hygienist or Doctor of Dental Medicine
    • Three years of administrative experience preferably in Dental Assisting/Hygiene Education in a community college setting or Dental Practice
    • Two years of teaching experience in Dental Assistant/Hygiene Education or Dental Practice
    REQUIRED LICENSE, CERTIFICATIONS, OR SPECIAL CREDENTIALS:
    • Must be Dental Assisting National Board "Certified Dental Assistant" or Dentist licensed to practice in Alabama with occupational experience in the application of fourhanded dentistry principles, either as a dental assistant or working with a chairside assistant.
    • Must be willing to become a CODA site visitor (after hired).
    OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills
    • Knowledge of state and national accreditation requirements
    • Computer literate
    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
    1. Be able to navigate the classroom (for at least 50 minutes at a time) for board instruction, demonstration of relevant concepts, and monitoring classroom and testing.
    2. Be able to move technological carts and equipment (at least 20 to 25 pounds).
