    AltaGas - Analyst, Strategy and Planning

    Reporting to the Director – Digital Strategy, Planning, and Architecture this role is a catalyst for technology change in a growing and transforming business. This role will be a champion for informed decision-making, driving improvements in the quality and consistency of our data used to inform the most important technology investments our company makes.

    You will partner with key business leads in identifying opportunities for business improvement or risk reduction, and work across our digital team to understand key interdependencies and considerations for net new investments in our broader technology portfolio.

    You will:

  • Creating business cases for potential technology investments, and partnering with key business stakeholders to identify process scopes, change management plans, and resource / personnel requirements
  • Evaluating and analyzing our current state business processes and architecting future state processes designed to focus our team's time and effort on the most valuable tasks, with the intention to inform business case development and functional requirements
  • Capturing functional requirements for key technology investments, and working to improve the understanding of project and technology requirements prior to vendor engagement
  • Gathering and creating critical data to inform the relative prioritization of potential technology investments and acting as a key advisor to senior leaders on portfolio construction. You will be helping to balance our investments to financing available, and optimizing our technology portfolio with available funding
  • Developing expertise with business data sources, KPI's and metrics, and value chains to bridge knowledge gaps for stakeholders when prioritizing and evaluating potential technology investments
  • Building and maintaining a pragmatic digital asset lifecycle process capturing key assets in service and critical metadata used to inform the annual IT capital plan. This process will be designed for our medium to long range plans, to protect our business from asset obsolesces, and manage and optimize our support costs
  • Partnering with our key corporate partners, finance and supply chain, to ensure we structure contracts for appropriate project execution
  • Maintaining our Digital performance management process, facilitating monthly updates with key digital leaders for enterprise-wide value drivers reporting.
  • Building and maintaining a pragmatic digital asset lifecycle process capturing key assets in service and critical metadata used to inform the annual IT capital plan for our SEMCO-regulated utility. This process will be designed for our medium to long-range plans, to protect our business from asset obsolesces and manage and optimize our support costs
  • Partnering closely with the Program Delivery & Execution, Business Solutions, Cyber Security, and Infrastructure teams, ensuring transparency of our strategic demand pipeline, approved demand, project budgets, and the Digital Strategy and Planning team's current workload
  • You'll be comfortable presenting executive-level communications to Business & Digital leadership on your respective areas of the portfolio/key projects; you'll be equally as comfortable diving more deeply into the details or a key project with technical & project team staff
  • You have:

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • 3+ Years relevant experience required or background in Management information systems, finance, supply chain, or information technology architecture
  • Desire, passion, and energy to help build and drive a transformation mindset across the organization
  • A passion for learning and business transformation, fostering an environment for professional growth across the team
  • Intermediate understanding of business case development
  • Proficient in MS Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • A background in management consulting or professional services will be an asset for this position
  • An understanding of the IT application lifecycle, with experience in project delivery or business analysis
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with senior business stakeholders
  • Prior experience in lean process design is considered an asset
  • Prior experience working with gas or electric utilities preferred; will consider related experience in other industrial domains
