    City Experiences is seeking a Manager, Marine Operations for our City Cruises operation in Niagara Falls.

    About You:

    This person will be adaptable, dynamic, and embody City Experiences' RESPECT Service System.

    About the Opportunity:

    The Manager, Marine Operations is a seasoned leader that will manage and lead its marine operation. This includes overseeing all vessels, landing facilities and deck crew. The Manager will also be responsible for leadership, performance management and administrative duties. This position reports to the Director, Marine and Facilities.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
    • Manage and lead the Captains and Mates
    • Create and manage crew schedules; approve time off, sick time and all other requests
    • Ensure all vessels and crew exceed the minimum Transport Canada standards as well as all other federal, provincial and contractual requirements
    • Responsible for performance management, including coaching, counseling, developing, and engagement of deck officers
    • Plan and monitor all daily dockside operations while working closely with all other Operations Managers
    • Together with the Director, Marine and Facilities lead projects during new vessel builds, equipment upgrades, vessel maintenance and repairs including haul outs, refits and equipment overhauls
    • Manage, prepare and oversee purchasing, operating/capital budgeting and strategic planning
    • Ensure ongoing cost analysis and containment in responsible areas
    • Monitor and ensure compliance with all provincial, federal and industry specific legislation and company standards for all project and daily operations
    • Manage and develop external relationships including all authorities, regulators, local stakeholders, contractors, suppliers, and consultants
    • Maintain industry knowledge of best practices, new technologies, and systems to improve the quality of guest experience and employee performance
    • Develop new and innovative ways to enhance safety and operational efficiency
    • Ensure the logging and documentation of inspections as set forth in the SMS and ISO Management Systems is completed, remain current with inspections and documentation for internal and third-party audits
    • Recommend, plan and execute projects as directed by the Director, Marine and Facilities
    • Work with the Manager, Engineering and Manager, Dock Operations as well as other department Managers to share information, ideas and strategies for continuous improvements
    • Assist with the recruitment, placement and onboarding of Captains and Mates
    • Provide Captains with the tools, documentation and schedules to deliver training, drills and safety talks to meet the regulatory, legislative and required contractual obligations
    • Hold Captains accountable for conducting and recording training drills and safety talks
    • Together with HR, ensure that all training and required certifications for the Marine Operations department are up to date
    • Review and recommend updates to the departmental policies, procedures and plans
    • Together with Safety Services, develop and maintain the company security plan in accordance with regulatory and contractual requirements
    • Develop and maintain the company safety management system in accordance with regulatory and contractual requirements
    • Follows all safety policies, departmental policies, and service standards
    • Adheres to all health and safety regulations
    • Works with a safety mindset by ensuring that employees follow all safety policies and procedures. Takes overall responsibility and accountability for the prevention of work-related injuries and/or illness by identifying and communicating risks, hazards and opportunities on the job. Provides necessary measures (i.e. PPE) and allocates resources to keep the workplace safe
    • Understands all Niagara City Cruises' policies and procedures relating to the employee's role within the company
    • Maintains any applicable licenses and certifications
    • Completes any other duties as assigned
    Requirements & Qualifications:
    • Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible experience in a marine operation, preferably within the passenger vessel industry
    • Three (3) or more years managing and leading employees
    • Post-secondary education at an accredited maritime college or other institution preferred
    • Minimum Master 150 Gross Tonnage, Domestic certificate
    • Five (5) or more years of boat handling experience
    • Current Marine Basic First Aid
    • Current Domestic Marine Medical certificate
    • Strong leadership, customer service, organizational and planning skills
    • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills (written, oral and listening) including conflict resolution skills
    • Possess and maintain a current Ontario driver's license and satisfactory driving record
    • SVMO certification an asset
    • Ship Security Officer Certificate an asset
    • Confined Space training an asset
    • Fall Arrest training an asset
    • Knowledge of shipboard maintenance software and Microsoft office applications an asset
    • Knowledge of foreign language is helpful
    • Ability to reach, bend, stoop, wipe, push, pull, move or lift up to 45 pounds (20 kilograms)
    • Walk, stand, sit and work in all types of weather conditions for extended periods
    • Continually and repeatedly perform functions indoors and outdoors
    • If required, wear assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (i.e. non-slip shoes, gloves, weather appropriate dress attire, sun protection)
