    The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Correctional Institute, is seeking a caring and compassionate Nurse Practitioner who is passionate about primary health care to become part of the health care team.

    In addition to primary health care competencies, the ideal candidate will have experience in chronic disease management, pain and symptom management, and mental health and addictions.

    Your practice will have a focus on health promotion and disease prevention.

    As a Nurse Practitioner, you will make clinical decisions and plan care as part of an inter-professional health care team.

    Working as a Nurse Practitioner with the Ministry of the Solicitor General, you will have the opportunity to practice in an environment where you are supported by experienced primary care practitioners, including physicians, nurse practitioners, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers and pharmacists.

    In this role, you will use your specialized knowledge and skills to provide patient-centred primary care. Assess, diagnose and prescribe treatment with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention


    • Collaborate with an inter-professional team in the development of the patient plan of care, and to develop and implement strategies that promote health and prevent illness
    • You have a Nurse Practitioner specialty certificate in primary health care or adult care
    You have leadership skills to coordinate and deliver primary health care services, embed quality improvement and lead consultation and engagement with healthcare staff and partners, as well as internal and external stakeholders
    You have knowledge of illness/disease theory, health promotion and prevention, pharmaceuticals, diagnostic and laboratory testing, evidence-based practice and current treatment modalities


    • You have knowledge of mental health and addiction treatment options
    • Health Care Consent Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, Regulated Health Professions Act, etc.)
    You can adapt your communication skills to provide information and health teaching to a diverse population


    • You can support patients in the implementation and modification of their treatment plan

    You are expected to work rotating shifts in a health care unit that provides 7 days per week service, up to 24 hours a day.
