    Description

    The Materials Testing Technician duties include testing of aggregate and bituminous samples for physical property constants and contract conformance following the Canada Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL) Standards. Proper health, safety and environmental guidelines must be followed.

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform gradation, physical and consensus property analysis on aggregate and granular samples from our production facilities and other sources for contract specification conformance using LS and/or ASTM standard test methods
  • Design and test all asphalt mixes for our asphalt plants, using standardized test methods, in accordance to customer specifications
  • Verify testing equipment's accuracy and perform calibrations as required in accordance to our Quality Control Manual and/or manufacturer recommendations
  • Input test data into software and review generated reports for accuracy
  • Generate and maintain control charts for all material produced
  • Participate in monthly and yearly testing correlations to maintain CCIL Certification
  • Maintain and repair all testing equipment
  • Prepare and maintain supply of standard reference material
  • Maintain laboratory's cleanliness for safe working environment and to prevent cross-contamination
  • Perform monthly laboratory safety inspections

    • WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Standing for long periods of time
  • Flexibility to work overtime and weekends if required
  • Working in a Mobile Laboratory if required
  • The work in the laboratory requires handling and operating hazardous materials (trichloroethylene and silica dust) and equipment
  • The ability to lift up to 30kg
  • Areas of the laboratory require hearing protection from noise generated by testing equipment

    • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 2 years relative laboratory testing experience
  • Preferred candidate minimum 2 years technical college diploma or equivalent work experience.
  • Sound knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and database software.
