    JOB TITLE DROP-IN PROGRAMS COORDINATOR NATIONAL OCCUPATION CODE 42201POSITION TYPE FULL-TIME, 30 to 37.5 HOURS/WEEK Drop-in Programs Coordinator will plan, coordinate, and facilitate learning and community building events, based on community needs and Centre priorities. They will support the Community Services Department as needed, and work on building relationships by providing compassionate, non-judgmental support to community members, in addition to providing access to supplies, resources, and referrals, using empowerment and harm reduction philosophies.

    Duties and Responsibilities: Program Coordination:

    • Facilitate community consultations to inform drop-in programming
    • Plan and facilitate events, workshops, celebrations and programs, including community events in partnership with other agencies, such as West End Spring Clean Up, Ellice Street Fest, etc.
    • Maintain positive and constructive working relationships with coworkers through teamwork, collaboration, and debriefing
    • Supervise and mentor summer staff (1-2), with support from the Department Director
    • Support and mentor program volunteers and mentors with their tasks and modeling expected behaviour
    • Ensure the development, implementation and evaluation of effective programs, including maintaining tracking system, collecting stats and participant testimonials when needed
    • Assist the Department Director with grant and report writing, in collaboration with other staff
    • Support other programs of the Community Services Department, as needed
    Drop-in Support:
    • Maintain a safe space at the Centre where all are welcome and respected
    • Monitor participant safety and well-being (physical, emotional, mental)
    • When required, assist with the delivery of services including meal service, distribution of hygiene, harm reduction and weather appropriate supplies, laundry, shower, phone and computer usage
    • Perform cleaning and sanitization as needed throughout shift
    • Be fully aware of WCWRC activities, programming and staff in order to direct inquires and register participants appropriately
    Participant Support:
    • Build trusting relationships with participants
    • Model safe, trauma-informed and harm reduction-based practices within the team and with the community
    • Identify, intervene and effectively resolve emergency, crisis and conflict situations
    • Provide support to vulnerable participants compassionately and non-judgmentally while maintaining strong personal boundaries
    • Facilitate connecting participants with appropriate internal and external resources that will improve their standard of living
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Essential
    • Ability to work within anti-racist and anti-oppressive frameworks and actively engage in ongoing learning about these frameworks
    • Ability to practice participant-centred work and to work from a trauma-informed approach
    • Strong interpersonal skills; able to work effectively with diverse individuals and show compassion and understanding
    • Experience with planting, harvesting and maintaining gardens
    • Strong understanding of and ability to practice harm reduction and empowerment philosophies
    • Demonstrated crisis intervention training and experience
    • Experience planning and coordinating events for community
    • Strong facilitation skills
    • Ability to multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills
    • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to work in a respectful and cooperative manner with co-workers, and centre participants
    • Good computer skills including the use of Microsoft Office, Outlook and Canva
    Preferred
    • Lived experience of overcoming housing insecurity, homelessness, poverty and/or marginalization strongly preferred
    • Valid Class 5 Driver's License strongly preferred
    • Experience working within the non-profit sector
    • Existing knowledge of the issues of marginalization
    • Experience working collaboratively with community organizations
