    This is administrative work in coordinating various aspects of the Rising Stars Youth Steel Band Orchestra Program. Work involves recruiting, screening, and selection of youth participants in the program, coordinating various aspects of the tutorial program for band members and preparing for band participation in seasonal programs, such as Christmas and Carnival activities.
    Work is performed with substantial independence within established court policies for the administration of the Steel Band Program. Work is reviewed by the Rising Stars/Pre-Trial Intervention Program Director on the basis of conferences, reports, and results achieved.
    Duties and Responsibilities
    • Prepares and issues applications to prospective band applicants.
    • Assists in reviewing applications and in making final selections of participants.
    • Prepares listing of participants for insurance coverage; receives and reviews invoice and submits for payment.
    • Assists in preparing for orientation with parents and members, prepares materials and name tags for all applicants.
    • Completes application forms for participation in fund program.
    • Researches and makes selections and recommendations for field trips.
    • Coordinates transportation arrangements for members and staff to serve as chaperones.
    • Serves as chaperone by accompanying summer participants on all field trips, sport outings and rap sessions.
    • Prepares files for all participants.
    • Meets with prospective teachers along with supervisor to discuss goals, scheduling and recommendations for improvement.
    • Assists in the supervision of members at tutorials; provides mentoring to band members with academic problems.
    • Prepares application for use of Reichhold Center for supervisory review.
    • Makes preparations for member's uniform selection and orders; sorts bagged uniforms by section for distribution.
    • Makes arrangements and contacts contractor to construct stage at Reichhold Center; coordinates project construction and installation of lights and electrical connections; assists in the final decoration of concert stage; assists in the dismantling of concert stage, cleaning up and removing decorations from stage.
    • Reviews participant report cards; enters grades into Rising Stars' database.
    • Attends scheduled practices and monitors student's behavior and attendance.
    • Participates in the coordination of all Carnival activities and in the decoration of parade vehicles.
    • Assists in the preparation of monthly calendars for distribution.
    • Other duties as assigned or required.
    Minimum Qualifications
    Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Education, Counseling, Social Science, Psychology or related field and considerable experience (two to five years) in working in a youth program.
    Position Factors

    • Knowledge of codes, procedures, rules, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to the Rising Stars Program.
    • Knowledge of the mission, objectives, and available resources relative to the Rising Stars Program.
    • Ability to interpret and explain program information to others and to follow procedures and regulations.
    • Ability to complete and process forms, checklists, and reports accurately.
    • Ability to maintain required records and files.
    • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships.
