    Description

    Responsibilities

    :
  • Reviews projects and liaises with other PF&R staff to determine needs, standards, and priorities for the planning and design of projects.
  • Consults with and presents to internal and external client groups plans, designs and related materials for area landscape initiatives and opportunities including but not necessarily limited to presentation materials, conceptual designs, master plans, site planning, studies and standards for parks, open spaces and amenities.
  • Provides advice to appropriate staff on land-use planning matters including policy initiatives, development applications, road closings and storm water management facilities.
  • Evaluates sites and analyzes data, such as, location and demographics, user profiles and patterns, soil and drainage and environmental conditions, adjacent land uses, vegetation, climatic and micro-climatic conditions.
  • Checks designs and cost estimates prepared by others including consultants to determine course of design and feasibility of construction for current projects and future parks, and planning budget initiatives of the division/branch.
  • Completes requests for proposals for the provision of consultants.
  • Provides direction and coordinates efforts of consultants retained for services related to landscape planning initiatives of the Division, including design competitions.
  • Provides services as required to implement projects and administer work in progress including the preparation and tracking of all construction records, change notices, payment approvals, etc.
  • Reviews proposals from external proponents to assess impacts of proposed facilities and infrastructure on PF&R assets (e.g. stormwater management facilities, transit, utilities, parks, trails, recreation facilities).
  • Requisitions special equipment, material and supplies and liaise with suppliers and other City divisions for provision of goods and services.
  • Maintains records of all plans and documentation including as-built conditions.
  • Prepares conceptual designs, master plans, parks and trails studies and standards for parks, open spaces and amenities in consultation with internal stakeholders and community groups.
  • Represents the Branch or Division at Community Councils, Committees, community advisory groups, task forces or other meetings with involved parties as required.
  • Prepares and gives expert evidence relating to parks design matters as required, including to the Ontario Municipal Board and other proceedings.
  • Key Qualifications:

    Your application must describe your qualifications as they relate to:

  • Degree/diploma in Landscape Architecture or an approved equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive experience working within a professional team environment in the field of landscape architecture with specific emphasis on parks and recreation.
  • Experience in the use of computer applications relevant to a landscape architectural environment such as Microsoft Office, CAD, databases, mapping, presentation graphics, etc.
  • Experience dealing effectively with the public, internal and external client groups, consultants, contractors and staff.
  • Possession of a valid Ontario "G" Drivers Licence and access to a personal vehicle for site visits.
  • You must also have:

  • Membership in the Ontario Association of Landscape Architects(Full membership preferred).
  • Working knowledge of current practices in parks, urban forestry, horticulture, ecological restoration and landscape construction, including sustainable environmental design, use of native plants, innovative materials, storm water management and sensitive integration of built facilities with landscapes.
  • Ability to prepare landscape plans, presentation graphics, written reports and cost estimates.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills, with an ability to communicate effectively and professionally at all levels of the organization and with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish effective working relationships and provide excellent customer service
  • Highly developed written and visual communication skills, with the ability to prepare graphics, drafting, and reports
  • Knowledge of the project management process.
  • Sound judgement and problem solving skills in public and personal relations.
  • Familiarity with government legislation in the area of occupational health and safety, including, but not limited to the design and development of parks, and recreation facilities, environmental improvements and ecological sustainable development.
  • Ability to support the Toronto Public Service values to ensure a culture that champions equity, diversity and respectful workplaces.
