    The Department of Microbiology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position, commencing July 1, 2023, or a date mutually agreed upon. Salary and rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

    The Department seeks an emerging scholar with a commitment to excellent teaching and research.Outstanding microbiologists will be considered, with particular emphasis on candidates who will complement or extend the Department's strengths in antimicrobial resistance, applied microbiology, environmental microbiology and virology. Duties will include undergraduate teaching; graduate teaching and supervision; research, including the establishment of an externally funded research program; and service activities.

    The successful candidate will have a PhD and postdoctoral or other distinguishing experience in Microbiology or related field. They will have a track record of high quality scholarly research leading to peer-assessed publications; demonstrate the potential to establish an independent, innovative, externally fundable research program; have demonstrated strength or strong potential for outstanding teaching contributions; and exhibit evidence of the ability to work in a collaborative environment.

    The Department has 17.5 full time tenured and tenure track faculty members and 2.5 Instructors and offers a full range of undergraduate and graduate programs in Microbiology, Biochemistry and Genetics. The Department has access to well-established research infrastructure, including facilities for microbial growth and analysis, cell sorting, genomic analyses, biochemistry and structural biology, including crystallography and cryo-EM, live-cell and other imaging, and plant growth, and is supported by strong research links with other units, including the Departments of Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Medical Microbiology and Infectious Disease, Biosystems Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Plant Science.
