    The Research Analyst is responsible for conducting comprehensive research, thorough analysis, and detailed reporting to support data-driven decision-making in matters concerning property assessment and taxation. This role involves gathering both quantitative and qualitative data on various property tax-related topics such as exemptions, subsidies, incentives, relief programs, and emerging trends. Through in-depth analysis, the Research Analyst identifies patterns and provides recommendations on policies and strategies that impact Calgary's financial stability and economic resilience. Key responsibilities include:

    • Supporting property tax benchmarking and analysis.
    • Overseeing research projects and data collection involving national and regional comparisons.
    • Keeping abreast of current information through internal and external sources to identify challenges and opportunities.
    • Examining emerging trends and initiatives in other municipal settings.
    • Monitoring data related to property tax policies and programs to facilitate evaluation and reporting.
    • Developing strategies for sharing research findings through various mediums such as spreadsheets, documents, presentations, and reports.
    • Establishing connections with different departments within The City to stay updated on trends, policies, and procedures, especially in areas like planning & development and corporate planning.
    • Fostering relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate data collection, research, and analysis.

    Qualifications:

    • A degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Business, Economics, Finance, Commerce, Real Estate, or a related field.
    • Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, with a preference for background in property tax or public finance.
    • Proficiency in business writing would be advantageous.
    • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) are highly desirable.
    • Prior experience in data collection, interpretation, result reporting, and recommendation development is a plus.
    • Strong communication skills, critical thinking abilities, analytical mindset, problem-solving aptitude, solid research and planning capabilities, and demonstrated political awareness.
