    Position Scope
    As a vital member of the Operations Team, the Supervisor, Plant Operations is responsible for safe and responsible operation of the Carbon Engineering Innovation Centre and all associated activities occurring during their shift. They will direct, manage, guide and mentor their team, instilling a culture of Operational Excellence and a high degree of professionalism. They will collaborate with Maintenance, Engineering, Planners, Controls Engineering, and the Production Manager to ensure plant activities are executed safely, timely and according to plan.
    • This role will report to the Manager, Production
    • This role is based in Squamish, BC.
    • This position follows Carbon Engineering Operations 4-on, 4-off shift schedule, alternating two rotations of days and then two of nights.
    Health Safety and Environment
    • Champion a positive safety culture within the Operations team.
    • Be familiar with, and ensure adherence to core HSE policies including, but not limited to:
      • Permit to work;
      • Lockout tagout;
      • Contractor work;
      • Line break;
      • Hot work;
      • Confined space entry;
      • Working at height;
      • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
    • Maintain the plant in a safe condition in line with all applicable regulations.
    • Identify, report and resolve unsafe conditions, processes or actions within the workplace.
    • Ensure that all safety related incidents, accidents and near misses are reported and investigated in line with company policy.
    • Be familiar with the Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and associated responsibilities within the plan.
    • Ensure that periodic safety inspections, daily rounds and other safety related requirements are completed in a timely fashion.
    • Complete training curriculum.
    Responsibilities
    • Lead and facilitate the shift team meeting at the beginning of every shift and ensure all components of the Shift Team Meeting template are completed.
    • Understand, clearly communicate, and lead their shift team through the successful execution of current test campaigns and provide regular feedback on campaign progress.
    • Ensure appropriate action is taken and mitigations are in place during abnormal operations to return process conditions to within spec and on target.
    • Approve or seek the appropriate approvals as required for interlocks, overrides and bypasses and engage with their team to ensure mitigations are robust and are in place.
    • Maintain strong communications, collaborative and effective relationships between the Production, Maintenance, and Engineering teams so all remain informed of any changes that affect operations, test campaigns, preventive, and corrective maintenance.
    • Ensure the Daily Shift Logs, Daily Production Reports, and Weekly Reports are complete, and accurately represent the occurrences for the appropriate timelines.
    • Prepare for and lead the Operations section of the Daily Morning Meeting and Daily Coordination Meetings.
    • Promote and verify accuracy and timeliness of all communications and reports generated by their shift team and sign off/approve where necessary (i.e. SOP, morning reports, chemical inventory sheets, sampling schedule etc.).
    • Support the Operations Planner to identify production project scopes and provide proper instruction, tools, parts, and hazard controls for the job to facilitate safe, efficient, and value-added work.
    • Support the development, review, and revision of practices, procedures, risk assessments, check sheets, P&IDs, temporary connection plans, safeguard override plans, isolations, etc.
    • Support and guide their team on the safe shutdown, start-up, purging, cleaning, and isolation of equipment and processes.
    • Champion the Operational Excellence Program through participation, mentorship, assurance, and constructive feedback to their team. Solicit for and encourage opportunities for improvement to maintain a learning environment.
    • Verify that Daily Directives, Shift Objectives and end of shift requirements have been completed satisfactorily and communicate incomplete tasks.
    • Manage team scheduling including vacation, sick time, and mutual trades within the CE policy while adhering to minimum staffing requirements and minimizing overtime.
    • Review, ensure accuracy of, and approve timesheets for their shift team.
    • Conduct and delegate daily workplace inspections, daily rounds of the facility as well as other tasks identified in the Operator Standard Work document.
    • Ensure shift team provides safe and timely support to all planned and unplanned Operational and Maintenance activities.
    • When commissioning new equipment and processes, or during abnormal operations identify, capture, and communicate lessons learned and implement solutions where appropriate.
    • Conduct site tours for investors, media, and other guests as requested.
    • Support Operations team in their use of all CE work processes including Permit to Work, FLHA's, Lock Out Tag Out, Interlock bypasses, Line Breaks, change control, SDS, training, action logs, incident reporting tool, Fixx Requests, etc.
    • Understand the scope of planned changes and the operational requirements to safely execute the commissioning, operations, troubleshooting, and optimization of these changes.
    • Understand commissioning plans and support the commissioning schedule for changes.
    • Coordinate with Project Engineering and Operations Trainer to train all operators on latest changes.
    Leadership and Management
    • Responsible for team scheduling and acquiring proper competent shift coverage in the case of vacation, illness, training, etc.
    • Ensure site security plan is understood and followed.
    • Delegate projects to their shift team, monitor progress against milestones, and provide progress reports to Management.
    • Interview potential employees.
    • Set objectives and conduct performance reviews for members of their shift team.
    • Work with the Production Manager to create and implement the shift team training schedule to maintain proper coverage of all areas of the plant and to continue improving the overall competency within the team.
    • Manage the onboarding of new Operators to their team, including the development of individual training plans in alignment with their crew competencies, follow up on training plan progress, and provide updates to Production Manager on progress according to plan.
    • Mentor and support their team members by providing development opportunities through delegation of tasks and frequent, effective check-ins for direction and progress.
    • Perform regular scheduled one-on-one meetings with their shift team
    Education and Experience
    • 5+ years of related industry experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
    • Grade 12 or GED. A technical degree or diploma is preferable.
    • Operations background with experience leading small teams of 5-10 people.
    • Experience in leading plant commissioning or preparing industrial facilities for outages is considered an asset.
