The end of pool season.

The end of pool season.

u4aZH.jpg

Tomorrow is the saddest day of the year for me. The guys come and close the pool for the winter. I was doing 60 lengths every day since we opened it except about five. A couple days I froze my ass off, but only until I got warmed up. Swimming is a great cardio exercise. It's also a great place to think though the short stories I have been writing for the past two years. I'm working on my 22nd at the moment. Every time I get stuck, I get into the pool and start swimming and sooner or later, an idea comes forth and suddenly I'm unstuck. Now it's all about the free walking. I have figured that 30 trips around the outside of my house is equivalent to 60 lengths in the pool. Hopefully it works for the thinking part too.

The last day before school starts ... a familiar and comfortable sensation.

We always have these conversations no matter how many decades have gone by or where we find ourselves; it seems Labour Day encourages them. They are the conversations and memories of the last day before school starts, and although not technically the last day of summer, those mem ...

Just say Hi

I go for a walk every day along the banks of the Fraser and the Pitt River, and this is my view as I walk. I have a weekly routine as I walk. On the first day I walk for 6 km, the next I walk 9 km and then I walk 11 km and go back to the 6 km walk. I enjoy the walk and seeing the ...

The Power of a Smile

Everyday kindnesses are those little thoughtful acts that we all know we should do, but sometimes we just can’t be bothered. Maybe it seems like too much trouble to help your neighbour carry in her groceries or to stop along the freeway to help someone change a tire.  · The oppor ...
