CPC Review

BILLIONS (SEASON 6) 2 SPUDS (CRAVE) Billions has just completed its sixth season, which was its first full season with a new protagonist character in person of Michael Prince who bought out Bobby Axelrod for a cool 2.5 billion and sent Bobby packing off to distant lands. The antagonist, the Chuck Rhoades charactor remains. So the question here is which protagonist made for a better villain in the series. And in my mind, there is no doubt that the Damian Lewis portrayal of the totally messed up but brilliant Bobby Axelrod wins hands down. This last season was filled with all the skull- duggery that the writers could dream up, but the Corey Stoll/Michael Prince character just seemed to lack the fire and balls-to-the-wall attitude that Damian Lewis brought to his part. The Paul Giametti character, Chuck Rhoades has always been basically a cartoon, that reminded me of the Wile-e-Coyote character, who was al- ways trying to trip up the roadrunner but always failing gloriously in the end. Billions is several notches above your typical TV soap opera, mainly because the writing and acting are so good. But the plotting is 99 and 44/100ths percent pure soap. And maybe that was the idea in the first place. All | know after watching this show slip and slide its way through six seasons, is that up until the end of season 5 it was great, and after that it was, well something less. And the degree of that something less all depends on how much you loved the first five seasons.
