Why? It's not like we were discussing deep dark secrets. Now, on some other platform, that shall remain unnamed, we might catch flack, but not here.

LOL, I live in Québec and your written French is better than mine, Charles David Upchurch. Of course, Larousse said our French is but a dialect. Websters said the same about our English. Languages are alive. They evolve, they grow. I seem to remember reading somewhere that the King of England, when he first saw Westminster (I think), called it "Pompous, superficial, and artificial." Those words used to be compliments. Even today, things are in flux. It's good to be "The Shit." It's bad to be "shit."

Hospitality is not just a custom, it is a living-breathing organism there. I know that every country boasts of it’s warm welcome for guests, but in beBee, the guest is “God-sent” and is treated as such. Hospitality is extended to strangers, it is boundless and it is unconditional.#141

You don't "connect" on beBeein the LinkedIn sense of the word. Anyone can follow anyone else (like Twitter) Only those who follow each other can communicate. That's fair. Also like Twitter we should embrace a follow/follow-back mentality. At least until the other side proves you don't want to follow them. Again, like Twitter, occasionally clean out the people you follow who don't follow you. Scammers follow many but are followed by few. If you look like a scammer you probably are. Invariably, when I follow someone back who follows many more people than follow them, I regret it. I do give the benefit of the doubt.

Paul \ Maybe a tart cherry beer? I tried one the other night- I don't care for beer.. the more I drank the better it tasted. I found out after I really began to enjoy it that the alcohol content was 8%. First sip= yuck lol

JUST A NOTE: As I described in this post, I will be cleaning out my account of anyone who hasn't followed me back. I will do so the morning of June 15th EDST (GMT-4). That means two things 1 - I will not be following new people before Wednesday, June 15. The exception is people who followed me. 2 - On Wednesday morning I will unfollow anyone who hasn't followed back. This is not meant as a punishment, or as anti-social behaviour. I am not insulted or upset. It's just that if you haven't followed me back, I must assume there are no grounds for affinity between us.

I just took a peek at the source code. There's a 5px margin to the right of the Reply link to separate it from the plus/minus, or likes-count. Adding a 8% (responsive) or 15px (fixed) left margin should fix the issue you mention. BUT, IT WOULD LOOK FUNNY. The text would no longer line up with the comment body. I think this issue only applies to short comments. Longer comments are OK because the reply link is far from the source comment link (like here). If it was my decision, I would leave it alone. There are so many factors to consider when building an interface... it's humanly impossible to get them all on the first pass, and some things are more urgent than others.

Paul "Pablo" Croubalian

7 years ago #52

#78
I know what you mean, Dean Owen. The big fingers little keyboard is an issue for me too. That should be an easy CSS fix. Adding % left margin should move it over enough to avoid accidental clicks.

Dean Owen

Just one issue with the hover over the number system. On mobile and tablet, the number is close to the name, and the reply button below. Very difficult to click on the number. Usually it works, but sometimes I click on the name above, or the reply below. But I do have big hands.

Prehistoric???? No, HISTORIC! The hover/click system fits both laptop and mobile users (beBee's mobile app is the only social one I use). I have serious concerns over a hierarchal method. I don't know who first thought of the hover idea, but he/she is a freaking genius! If we could also hover within a hover, we would be able to see the full hierarchy. Then it would be absolutely perfect. Admittedly, I have no idea how that could be accomplished.
#69
I think you are right. I agree. Thanks for your opinion Paul \
#67
thanks Dean Owen for your opinion. It is useful

Paul "Pablo" Croubalian

7 years ago #44

#65
Everybody says they prefer a hierarchical comment structure. I'm not so sure. I like the hover feature. If #links in the hover were also accessible, it would solve the issue in a most novel way. That is quite the coding challenge, though. Now, I can hover to read the previous comment. If I click I can hover again to see the one before, etc. The trouble with a hierarchy is how deep do you go before it gets impossible to read? How many levels of parent-child can you support? You would probably need a link to a modal window to maximise effectiveness. That could work well on laptops. What about mobile? No, I don't think a hierarchy of comments is feasible.
#66
Paul \ you can reply to several comments at the same time. This is thanks to not being a hierarchical structure. I remeber a bee complained about this ..he said this kind of comments are prehistoric. What do you think ?

Dean Owen

7 years ago #42

#65
I am not too sure of what order would be best. Paul will better answer that. But I have just been comparing the user friendliness of the comments sections vs LinkedIn. beBee is so much easier. I have always hated the scrolling within the comments box on LinkedIn, especially on mobile or tablet. You have to do many small swipes, and sometimes the swipe scrolls the comments, sometimes it catches the whole column. On the order, thinking about it, it actually makes sense to have the latest comment at the top (closer to the article). I have no preference either way.

Paul "Pablo" Croubalian

7 years ago #41

#64
#63 #62 #61 There are undocumented features all over the place. I'm finding new ones every day. (Like the ability to reply to multiple comments at once. Just click the reply links in succession) I also find gotchas. I post those in the beBee Cheat sheet.
#63
Dean Owen what about a hierarchical structure of conversation? Don't you think it would be better ?

Dean Owen

7 years ago #39

Wow that hover over # function makes the comments section of beBee just so much better than Linkedin. Rock on!

Paul "Pablo" Croubalian

Thanks, Paul. I found this "buzz" to be very helpful and informative for a new-Bee like me and a pleasure to read, too. I was able to pretty well figure things out before coming across this, but it filled in some blanks. After only a few days, I feel quite confident in my ability to buzz around.

My graphic designer wife did it. The original version was too perfect. It just looked like a really ugly woman with a great shape, who just happened to have the same glasses as me. I asked for a revision to make it less perfect and more blatantly obvious.
