    About the Role:

    Canadian Blood Services is seeking a Regular Part-Time Cord Blood Collections Specialist to join the Stem Cells Team.

    Reporting to the Collection Supervisor, Recruitment/Collections, you will collaborate with CBS'CBB staff to ensure quality improvement and customer satisfaction in cord blood collections.

    Formula for Success:

    Responsibilities include umbilical ex-utero cord collections, public awareness/promotion, and maintaining positive relationships with stakeholders.

    Ex-Utero Cord Blood Collections:

    • Preparation of supplies and equipment at work location.
    • Tracking donor permission documentation in collaboration with healthcare providers.
    • Performing umbilical cord blood collection and maternal blood sample collection.
    • Ensuring error/incident reporting and initiating corrective actions.

    Operation of the CBS'CBB Collection Location-Hospital:

    • Quality control of equipment, supplies, and procedures.
    • Assisting in equipment setup and dismantling at the hospital collection site.
    • Work coordination and communication with hospital staff.

    Quality Event Management Quality Assurance Program:

    • Participation in investigations and root cause analysis.
    • Timely follow-up and documentation for quality events.
    • Contribution to process improvement plans.

    Communication/Relationship Management:

    • Acting as a liaison between team members and hospital stakeholders.
    • Promoting good interpersonal skills among stakeholders.

    Desired Education and Skills:

    • Post-secondary education in a relevant discipline.
    • Minimum three years of progressive experience.
    • Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
    • Bilingualism is an asset.
    • Computer proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
    • Detail-oriented with the ability to work under pressure.
    • Experience in venepuncture and cord blood collection.
    • Strong judgment and confidentiality skills.

    What You Can Expect:

    • Requirement to carry a cellular phone or pager at the hospital.
    • On-site work at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.
    • 6-8 weeks of full-time training.
    • Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 7am-3pm and 3pm-11pm.
