    Description

    What You Will Do:

    Gannett Fleming is seeking a Track Designer (EIT) to work alongside a strong and growing team in our Toronto, ON office on large scale track infrastructure design, studies, and maintenance assessment assignments.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a young professional in the industry to join a dynamic group of professionals with a solid track record of success in developing relevant and critical technical and business skills for future Professional Engineering licensure.

    The candidate will be entrenched in our Trainee Program with both external and in-house educational programs to fast track your learning.

    The successful applicants must have demonstrated interest and experience in railroad/transit planning, conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design and modelling of rail transit and freight rail guideways.

    Under guidance of a Professional Engineer, duties and responsibilities include:

    • Represent the firm's interests in developing and reviewing designs.
    • Develop and review quantity and cost estimates and projections.
    • Utilization of Microstation, AutoCAD, and 3D Visualization programs to assist in laying out right-of-ways, rail alignments, sections, and drainage systems.
    • Participate in project working meetings and suggest alternative designs in performing Value Engineering review and analysis.
    • Attend internal project meetings, must be able to work collaboratively with other internal and external interfacing multi-disciplinary team members
    • Application of engineering codes including AREMA, TCRP, NFPA, OPSS, OPSD, and Railway Agency Standards (Metrolinx, TTC, CN, CP etc.).
    • Hydraulic modeling to analyze, design, and assess drainage systems and associated civil works within rail corridors to promote design resiliency.
    • Assist in the development of construction staging plans and work phasing, including CAD drawings and constructability report narratives.
    • Format, style and assist in quality control of designs, reports, calculations, presentations, drawings, and project specifications.
    • Review design comments, recompile design drawings reports and assist with comment response packages.
    • Occasional field support for track inspections, construction and/or site visits may be required.

    Education | Experience:

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited University (Civil Engineering preferred).
    • Demonstrated interest in Transit and Rail Infrastructure with 1-3 years of relevant engineering work experience.
    • Knowledge of Civil Engineering computer aided drafting programs (AutoCAD/Civil 3D, Bentley MicroStation)
    • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and an ability to balance and prioritize workloads with the ability to switch between tasks and assignments as required.
    • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Autodesk, Bentley Microstation suites).
    • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
    • Excellent verbal, written, and strong interpersonal communication skills.
    • Self-starter with strong conflict resolution, collaboration, organization and planning skills to manage day to day workloads.
    • Commitment to achieving engineering excellence and a desire to learn and continually develop.
    • Preferred Qualifications:
    • EIT Registration with aspirations for P.Eng Licensure
    • Previous design, engineering, or field experience with transit/railroad projects and understanding of railroad engineering.
    • Proficiency with computer aided drafting programs (OpenRail, InRoads/InRail, AutoCAD, or Civil 3D).
    • Relevant co-op experience is an asset.
    • Valid Driver's License
