    The McGill University Department of Human Genetics in partnership with the Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research (LDI) at the Jewish General Hospital invites applications for a Contract Academic Staff (Research) faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor (Research) in the general area of molecular neurobiology in health and disease. The rank will be determined according to the chosen candidates' qualifications and experience. This position is a contract faculty position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. The successful candidate will have a salaried position at the LDI, in conjunction with a nil-salaried position at McGill University.

    This position will be a part of the Ludmer Centre Single-Cell Genomics Brain Initiative in partnership with the Douglas Mental Health Institute, the Montreal Neurological Institute (The Neuro) and the LDI/JGH. Applications are encouraged from many areas of neurobiology including but not limited to neurodegeneration, neuroinflammation, and brain disorders/diseases including brain tumors.

    The LDI is the research arm of the Jewish General Hospital (JGH) which is affiliated with the CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l'Île-de-Montréal (CCOMTL) and is part of the McGill Integrated University Health Network. The LDI boasts more than 200 researchers, 450 administrative and support staff, and about 275 post-graduate students and post-doctoral fellows who receive their research training at the Institute yearly. The McGill Department of Human Genetics is part of the School of Biomedical Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine. Faculty members in the Department have research labs at the main University campus and in the different Research Institutes associated with the McGill teaching hospitals. The Department is responsible for training basic scientists in human genetics as well as genetic counsellors, medical students, and specialists in the various clinical areas of medical genetics. Currently more than 200 graduate and postdoctoral trainees are enrolled in the Department.

    Job Duties

    The successful candidate is expected to:

    • Develop an internationally competitive research program in neurobiology;
    • Focus on single-cell analysis and the use of these technologies to understand and ultimately ameliorate human genetic diseases;
    • Attract local, provincial, national and if possible international funding;
    • Collaborate with other groups at the LDI, McGill and internationally
    • Teach in the Department of Human Genetics (and possibly other Departments) at the MSc, PhD and Post-doctoral level, as well as contribute to classroom, small group and other forms of teaching;
    • Provide an inclusive and welcoming environment that fosters collaboration, cooperation and commitment

    Qualifications and Education Requirements

    Candidate must have:

    • A PhD and or MD/PhD in Biochemistry, Neurobiology, Genetics or a related field and significant post-doctoral experience;
    • Experience in the area of single cell "omic" technology;
    • Evidence of strong research productivity and a publication record in the field of neurobiology, neurochemistry or neurogenetics with a demonstrated ability to attract competitive funding;
    • Fluency in English is essential;
    • A working knowledge of French, or a commitment to acquiring it within a few years of appointment is preferred.
