    Description

    The Opportunity:

    The City of Red Deer is currently recruiting for a CommunityServices Planning Coordinator to fill a permanent full-time position. The Community Services Planning Coordinatoris responsible for providing planning and development support services for theCommunity Services Division. Thisinvolves the coordination of the approvals of planning and design ofinfrastructure, recreation, park facilities, culture facilities and open spacesthrough intra-departmental review and public participation processes.Researchesdemographics, literature and promising practices from other municipalities,orders of government, and outside sources to stay current with information thatwill enhance community planning initiatives in recreation, parks and culture(analytical data processes/processing, ESRI / GIS systems integration).

    As our preferred candidate, youwill have:

  • University undergraduate degree in Land Use Planning,Landscape Architecture, Community Development, Leisure Services or otherdirectly related discipline plus two years of relevant municipal experiencethat includes public participation and community planning.

    • OR

  • A two-year Diploma from a post-secondary college inLand Use Planning, Landscape Architecture, Community Development, LeisureServices or other directly related discipline plus four years of relevantmunicipal experience that includes public participation and community planning.
    • In addition to the 9Core Competencies* identified for all employees of the City of Red Deer – thefollowing are specific to this position:
  • Demonstrated ability to gather complex pieces ofinformation from various sources (public, landscape planner, planningspecialist, Planning Commission, Managers, Superintendents and Supervisors) andsynthesize them into sound planning and land use recommendations for theCommunity Services Division.
  • Demonstrated understanding of community developmentpractices as they relate to project planning, public participation processes,community and park planning.
  • Knowledge and experience in community and parkplanning principles and guidelines, as well as the philosophy of communityservice.
  • Ability to work with staff and volunteers in projectdevelopment.
  • Demonstrated skills in Land Use Planning and design.
  • Ability to effectively negotiate with other CityDepartments, community organizations, and private developers.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effectiverelationships with staff in the PPW department, other departments, agencies,community organizations, School Boards, general public and consultants.
  • Able to work independently in an environment that alsodemands and values a team approach.
  • Ability to draft and prepare reports, agreements,grant applications, proposals and letters for City Council, Boards of Council,and community presentations.

    $46.56 to $49.01 per hour

    Hours of Work:

    75hours biweekly; Monday to Friday, some evening andweekend work may be required when needed.
