    HOURS: Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm

    Position Summary:

    Under the direction of the Manager, Student Life, the Student Lifeand Housing Advisor (Advisor) supports international students related tohousing, including finding suitable housing and assistance in the navigation of systems and services to concerns that may arise relatedto their housing environments.

    Key responsibilities:

  • Housing Navigation - Provides confidential guidance and resources for where to find on and off-campus housing, tenant rights and responsibilities, applications, lease agreements, and tips for moving in/out. Understands the College's academic programs and student services, including referral pathways for internal supports to assist the student in a timely way as issues arise.
  • Adherence to College's Policy - Follows policy and procedures with respect to risk management ( student mental health concerns, safety concerns, housing concerns. (including, but not limited to Residence Community Living Standards; Sexual Harassment Sexual Violence (SHSVP), Human Rights Discrimination and Harassment, Conflict of Interest).
  • Housing Database - Assist in managing the Housing Database, the online housing system ( off-campus, on-campus, third party platforms homeshare and home stay), assignment and billing of students, interns, and guests for the Fall, Spring, and Summer Terms. Work with Residence Life and other departments ( Finance, Student Success, Registrar, and Student Life) to find and compile suitable housing listings for students using risk management strategies and promote them to students.
  • Data Management - Analyses the students' housing needs. Identifies and tracks referrals, time to access service to secured housing; tracks issues related to housing and time and type of resolution to resolve student concerns and limit liability for the college.
  • Keeps detailed student issue reports, advising notes and records of housing concerns within the official student housing record system.
  • Maintains an understanding of federal immigration regulations and policies for international students.
  • Holds individual student meetings or group sessions as appropriate.
  • Participates in campus-wide advising training and development initiatives.
  • College Values - Engages with and maintains positive working relationships with advisors within the International Student Support and Housing Hub, across service areas, divisions, and campuses.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Educationaland Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum three-year diploma/degree or equivalent from a recognized post-secondary institution in International Relations, Paralegal/Law, Education, Business Administration, or related discipline.
  • Minimum of five (5) years' experience in a post-secondary education system and/or international education, working collaboratively and with cross-functional teams across a broad range of student groups and with student services and with relevant academic stakeholders.
  • Experience in providing in-depth advising to students regarding academic or career advising, immigration programs, or housing support, and development and implementation of student programs and services is required.
  • Experience in designing/delivering workshops and managing large events required.
  • Experience in establishing strong and collaborative partnerships and working with students and student groups from diverse backgrounds.
  • Skills and Attributes:

  • Solid public speaking and presentation skills required.
  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills in English and cross-cultural sensitivity. Fluency in a foreign language based on the student population is an asset.
  • Excellent client service leadership, conflict resolution, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage stressful and complex time-sensitive situations with a high degree of tact, courtesy, and discretion.
  • Computer skills, including the use of databases, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, social media.
  • Excellent organizational and detail-oriented skills.
  • Ability to provide student support both in-person and on virtual platforms.
  • Able to travel between campuses.
  • Demonstrated commitment to uphold the College's priorities on diversity and equity.
