    ABOUT THIS OPPORTUNITY

    Black & McDonald's Ottawa team is expanding. If you are an independent, enthusiastic, and driven professional looking to lay a strong foundation for your career, this role is tailored for you.

    This opportunity is linked to the modernization of heating and cooling energy distribution systems for over 80 buildings in the National Capital Region. The project includes designing and constructing four new central heating and cooling plants with associated distribution piping networks and building conversions over a span of five years, as part of a Joint Venture Partnership with another leading Contractor. Black & McDonald is accountable for all mechanical and electrical work for this project. The role will be based at the project office and will report to the Site Project Manager.

    The Mechanical Project Coordinator will oversee planning, organizing, coordinating, and supporting technical workflow for designated engineering, procurement, and construction projects within the mechanical field. The selected candidate will directly report to the Project Manager.

    Duties and responsibilities include:

    • Assist the Project Manager in ensuring project objectives, policies, procedures, and performance standards align with company policy and contract specifications
    • Aid in planning and preparing construction schedules, monitoring progress against set timelines
    • Assist in contract preparation, negotiation, and handling of contractual agreements
    • Contribute to budget analysis, cost projections, and estimate project changes
    • Support in implementing quality control programs, nurturing customer and supplier relationships
    • Coordinate shop drawings, RFI's, SI's, progress reports, and issues
    • Manage trade and subcontractor coordination as well as document control
    • Procure necessary supplies and materials, ensure site compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards
    • Perform other duties as assigned

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

    • A College Diploma in Construction or Mechanical Engineering Technology or a University Degree in Mechanical Engineering is mandatory

    The following certifications/designations are beneficial:

    • Gold Seal Certification
    • Construction safety certifications

    Trades experience can be a substitute for educational requirements.

    WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    • 1-3 years of experience in the construction industry
    • Experience in drafting practices for mechanical building systems is advantageous

    SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    • Knowledge of contract management, construction scheduling, planning, execution, estimating, established construction practices, and business operations processes
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook)
    • Proficiency in design software like Revit, AutoCad, QuickPen PipeDesigner 3D, and QuickPen DuctDesigner 3D
    • Excellent communication, planning, and organizational skills
    • Ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, vendors, and clients
