    Description
    The individual will report to the SVP Finance who oversees Real Estate Finance and Corporate Financial Reporting teams.

    The individual will be responsible for managing and leading the financial reporting team (~15 finance professionals) within the Real Estate (RE) division.

    The RE division manages over to ~ 18 funds across Commercial, Residential, Student Housing, Hospitality, Seniors Housing with a significant focus on Development capabilities from raw land purchase to stabilized rental buildings and/or ultimate sale.

    A strong foundation in financial reporting, financial statements, disclosures, accounting simple to complex transactions, etc.

    We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Vice President of Finance to lead our financial reporting, controls, and operations.

    The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in financial management, reporting, and strategic planning.

    They will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial operations, including financial statements, disclosures, complex transactions, coaching and mentoring staff, managing third-party joint venture (JV) partnerships, and interfacing with investors and executive teams.


    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Financial Reporting:
    Lead the preparation and analysis of financial statements, ensuring accuracy, compliance with regulatory requirements, and adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (ASPE, IFRS, etc.)

    Controls and Compliance:
    Develop and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with financial regulations and policies.

    Audit and Tax:

    Will be the senior leader to oversee the annual financial audit, annual tax compliance and all other compliance financial reporting manners.

    Understand, explain, and implement simple to complex accounting transactions and correctly reflect into financial statements.

    Work with internal and external advisors to minimize impacts of tax, including but not limited to Income Tax, HST, LTT, etc.

    Final review of all financial statements on a quarterly and annual basis and will oversee the preparation of financial statements and accompanying notes disclosures, providing insights into disclosures and accounting for complex transactions with minimal supervision.

    Manage and oversee complex financial transactions, such as mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and restructuring activities, ensuring proper accounting treatment and financial impact analysis.

    Work collaboratively with other Senior Finance leaders cross divisionally and be a key lead in creating a Finance Centre of Excellence across Fengate with shared knowledge transfer of best practices.

    Provide leadership and guidance to finance team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning, professional development, and high performance.
    Interface with investors and other stakeholders to communicate financial performance, strategies, and key initiatives, fostering transparency and trust.
    Prepare and present investor returns, performance, operational updates into professionally curated decks for external and internal stakeholders.

    Real Estate Asset Management:
    Apply comprehensive understanding of real estate asset management principles to optimize financial reporting performance and mitigate risks.

    Project Accounting:

    Manage project accounting processes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of project financials, budgeting, and forecasting for real estate development initiatives.

    Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with external stakeholders such as audit firms, tax firms, legal firms, joint venture partners, vendors, lenders, and key stakeholders.

    Partner closely and regularly with FP&A finance team to assist with monthly, quarterly and annual forecasting and scenario analyses including balance sheet, income statement and cash flow forecasting.

    KEY QUALIFICATIONS Proven track record of years in progressively responsible finance roles, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity.

    Extensive experience in financial reporting, controls, and compliance, with a deep understanding of financial statements, disclosures, complex transactions, cash flow statement, equity and shareholder capital statements, etc.

    Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex financial data to inform strategic decision-making.

    Excellent communication sand interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse stakeholders, including investors, executives, and cross-functional teams.

    Strategic mindset with a focus on driving financial performance, operational excellence, and business growth.
    Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and effectively manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
    Understanding of the real estate landscape, including understanding of acquisition/investment, development, asset management, and financing is a plus.
    Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint is a must including the ability in preparing high quality decks.

    Ability to decipher complex language in legal agreements such as joint ventures, partitions, property management, GP, and LP agreements, loan documents, and other binding contracts.

    Ability to multitask, prioritize several projects and work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

    Strong time management and multitasking skills with the ability to thoughtfully plan and manage multiple projects simultaneously from start to finish, setting clear objectives and delivering on goals.

    The position will be based out of the Oakville office with flexibility to work out of the Toronto office. Fengate offers a Work-Flex policy where employees are allowed to work remotely up to 2 days per week.
