The Beezers Hive Is Alive & Buzzing… Hit Us With Your Best Shots
Many of us have migrated here to beBee, for various reasons, from The Lumpy Kingdom of The Mighty Hamsters aka LinkedIn.There’s no reason to go into the specifics as that would use up this post and probably several more.
A lot of the people I was close to in The Lumpy Kingdom were writers. Good to great. They were also readers. They were also supporters of each other.
But one of the things we weren’t was a vital part of the agenda of the Mighty Hamsters.
One of the things we all had in common was the challenge of finding good posts to read. Posts that were original. Posts that were challenging. Posts that were controversial and therefore sparked conversations.
Oh sure, we had each other. But something in our nature made us want to reach out further. And just as we were starting to understand the mechanics of doing that, the door was virtually closed and the wall was erected.
A Brand New Day
And so here we are at BeBee. In a way we’re all starting over on fresh ground with new people and old friends alike. And the positive spirit here is obvious.
Everybody is a cheerleader. Everybody is reaching out to their own peeps. And beBee is growing like a wildflower.
Fortunately it’s growing in a way that is not likely to take it down the same road as The Mighty Hamsters traveled. Certainly they will become public. Certainly there will be bumps in the road. And certainly there will be a number of risks associated with that.
But what beBee has going for it that the Lumpy Kingdom did not, in addition to well intentioned and experienced management, are people, writers, thinkers, analysts etc, who have the experience of LinkedIn fresh in their minds and between them know a hell of a lot about the pitfalls the future can lay in your path.
These are people who are determined to help beBee actualize its mission and not fall down the rabbit hole of user neglect.
While each of us can only do so much, I believe there are a number of people who are willing to help out and lend their experience to beBee with the objective of making and keeping it great.
The Beezers
One of the key communication elements on beBee are the hives.
And today Phil Friedman, Don Kerr, Kevin Pashuk and myself are adding another called The Beezers Hive.
The Beezers Hive came about as part of a 3-D get together the four of us had in Oakville Ontario on the 4th of July. It really was a meeting of individuals with like minds in many ways.
The Beezers was a casual nickname that we made up to give the group a personality. At first it was thought of as a descriptor of a bunch of elder statesmen in the blogging world, because we were all decades into that.
But the more I thought about it the more it came to represent to the a kind of vehicle, like a little roadster that moved fast and was very agile and certainly capable of high performance, but was always in control of the road.
The Beezers Logo & Mission
On Sunday while I watched a Swedish golfer named Henrick Stenson, a veteran of many major tournaments, but winner of none, demolish the British Open scoring record to take the prized Claret jug in the world’s oldest golf tournament, I designed a logo for the Beezers Hive.
Later that night on line we wrote the mission for the hive, which is as follows.
The Beezer Hive is the home, on beBee, of well-written, highly readable and comment-provoking content covering a broad range of topics. Where interesting and provocative posts and discussions are the norm, rather than the exception, and perpetually pushing the proverbial buttons is the intent.
The Beezers
What We Really Want The Beezers Hive To Be
We want the Beezers Hive to be a repository for consistently solid posts. We want to become known as the standard for op/ed blogging, not just here on beBee but everywhere in the known universe…I know that’s shooting high, but what the hell.
It is our hope that by attracting high quality bloggers we will attract their followers to beBee and really do our part to make it grow in as positive a way as possible.
As Microsoft turns LinkedIn to a moving billboard for their products and processes, makes paid membership the only way to belong and continues to strangle their publishing platform, more and more writers will turn to beBee. It’s inevitable.
So while beBee is still young we want to establish The Beezers Hive as a place where, at the very least, my 80/20 Differential is heavily skewed to 80% great content.
Think Before You Post
I read a couple of good articles last week on the idea of thinking through what you really want to do before you publish anything anywhere.
That’s a good rule of thumb to keep in mind for anything you might want to post in The Beezers Hive. Because there are people here who will let you know what they think and the majority of them know whereof they speak.
I have started casually mentoring bloggers here on beBee like I have done on other sites and I know that Phil Friedman does the same.
We want to make sure that beBee, overall, is known not just for the camaraderie that they engender on the social side but for the quality of blogging and business insight they also represent.
Having those two sides of the beBee coin operating in a high quality, positive way will make this a place we can all be proud to call home online.

How nice of you, Phil Friedman! Funny how many experts we "meet" here, though, on all sorts of topics! I am in awe of the brainiacs we engage with.

Annette was a cutie,. But I liked Darleen too. A WASPY, not that there's anything wrong with that.

...nobody ever said it was going to be easy. We'll try to be as constructively critical as possible, but the 4 of us are all writers and know where the good stuff ends and the not so good begins. I like to think this will be more of a challenge for the contributors than for us. Thx for the comment.

@Dr. Allen Brown - not to appear to be the Simon Cowell of the foursome, but I need to point out that, if the "rules of engagement" are clearly laid out in the Hive's mission statement, then nobody who chooses to post there has a complaint. We will not be allowing any sharing by third parties into the hive or content curation. Only the original author of an original post will be allowed to post into the hive. Thus, your piece will not come under the critical review of BeeZers hive members or administrators, unless you make a conscious decision to submit it there, understanding that we consider a submission a request for genuine review and constructive criticism. We do require civility in all discussions, but not agreement. And everyone, of course, retains the personal freedom of choice not to post to the BeeZers hive. Cheers!
