    Description
    Effective April 1, 2024 the salary range for this position is $82,217 to $121,155 per year in compliance with AMAPCEO collective agreement provisions. The new rates, effective retroactive to April 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

    We're seeking a Senior Communications Editor to plan, create and refine written and multimedia content across our digital platforms, both internal and external.

    About Us

    The Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development (MLITSD) leads Ontario's efforts to be the best province to recruit, train, reskill and protect workers of today and tomorrow.

    Our programs and services support all phases of employment for workers, job seekers, employers and recent newcomers.

    MLITSD's Communications Branch leads public and internal communications initiatives in support of ministry priorities and program delivery. Services include development of communications strategies, media relations, digital content, graphic design, writing services and event planning.

    What can I expect to do in this role?

    In this role, you will:


    • Research, plan, write, design, edit, and publish engaging written and multimedia content for the ministry's intranet, public website, and social media channels, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, branding and content guidelines, and accessibility standards.
    • Collaborate with subject matter experts to distill complex information into clear, concise messaging tailored to various audiences and platforms.
    • Stay abreast of emerging trends and best practices in digital communications, implementing innovative strategies to enhance outreach and engagement.
    • Identify target audiences and key performance indicators that align with organizational goals.
    • Analyze performance metrics and user feedback to evaluate the effectiveness of communication efforts and inform future strategy development.
    • Oversee multiple content-related projects, acting as curator/editor for various ministry communications products.
    • Share expertise with team members by providing guidance and mentorship, fostering a respectful and supportive environment that promotes diversity and inclusivity.
    • Provide strategic direction, advice, and editorial support to enhance communication strategies.
    • Attend meetings to provide communications advice to senior management, ministry colleagues, and partners and identify emerging issues.

    How do I qualify?

    Communications Knowledge & Digital Media Skills

    You have the ability to:


    • develop and implement strategic communication plans
    • coordinate messaging across various communication channels
    • demonstrate expert knowledge of theories, techniques, and processes of communications, digital content design and strategy, public relations, and integrated marketing
    • work with content management systems (CMS), social media platforms, creative software, multimedia and web creation and analytics tools
    • use related tools to analyze, monitor, and report data from digital platforms, prepare reports, briefing materials, and correspondence

    Writing, Editing, and

    Digital Content Skills:

    You have the ability to:


    • use digital content strategy and design knowledge and storytelling, writing, and editing skills to create communications materials that support directions and mandates
    • edit and optimize content for internal and external digital communications platforms, synthesizing complex information and communicating it in a way that is clear and easy to understand
    • ensure communications products are high quality, accessible, accurate and free of errors

    Project Management and Leadership Skills:

    You have the ability to:


    • use leadership and motivational skills to work cooperatively with colleagues, senior management, partner ministries and agencies and others
    • lead multi-disciplinary teams and projects
    • prioritize tasks, coordinate multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines
    • collaborate with stakeholders to achieve project goals

    Political Acuity Skills:

    You have the ability to:


    • provide expertise and advice with diplomacy on emerging and contentious issues
    • ensure strategic communications plans support ministry directions and mandates
    • understand and navigate organizational policy and decision-making processes

    • identify and monitor internal, public and media attitudes/issues related to ministry programs and initiatives
    • analyze data to provide strategic advice on communication strategies
    • identify trends which may become contentious issues and make recommendations to address key issues
