    Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI) acts as the collective voice for immigrant and refugee-serving organizations in Ontario, and coordinates response to shared needs and concerns. Our mission is to achieve equality, access and full participation for immigrants and refugees in every aspect of Canadian life. OCASI was founded in 1978 and now has 240 member agencies across Ontario.

    Overview:

    The Senior Coordinator, Gender-based Violence Program role is to coordinate all OCASI activities relating to GBV, and to ensure the sector has the necessary strategies and tools to eliminate violence against women through the development of resources and strategic partnerships within and outside the immigrant-serving sector. They will have a commitment to and awareness of equity, access to services, anti-racism and anti-oppression, gender-justice and anti-poverty as it relates to immigrants and refugees.
    The Building Leadership Capacity to Address Gender-Based Violence against Non-Status, Refugee, and Immigrant (NSRI) Women across Canada project is led by OCASI in partnership with four civil society organizations working across not for-profit, education, and grassroots community-based sectors to address Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The primary objective of this project is to build the leadership capacity of NSRI women to shape and inform policies and services addressing GBV. The purpose of the position is to provide leadership, project management, and support the coordination of all OCASI activities relating to GBV, and to ensure the sector has the necessary strategies and tools to eliminate GBV through the development of resources and strategic partnerships within and outside the immigrant-serving sector.
    • Lead and coordinate OCASI work related to GBV issues in collaboration with other OCASI Capacity team members
    • Work with project partners, content experts, and consultants to develop curricula on topics related to GBV issues in educational formats that are accessible to the peer champions and community advisory networks
    • Deliver on-line and in-person GBV training to service providers and NSRI women.
    • Develop and maintain on-line GBV resources

    What will the Senior Coordinator, Initiative to End Gender-Based Violence do?

    • Manage all aspects of project implementation: develop project work plans, timelines, implementation strategies and related plans in collaboration and consultation with project partners and advisory group
    • Lead and coordinate OCASI work on Violence against Women projects which may be funded by multiple sponsors
    • Develop and implement strategies to encourage and obtain stakeholder and/or community support
    • Identify and coordinate program teams and advisory groups to recommend project development and implementation
    • Plan, facilitate and conduct meetings
    • Coordinate the publicity and development of news releases, graphics, brochures, pamphlets and other material
    • Coordinate curriculum development for online GBV courses in collaboration with GBV team, GBV advisory committee, Francophone GBV advisory committee, and GBV project consultants
    • Provide online facilitated trainings to settlement sector practitioners and other service providers
    • Apply adult learning principles to training delivery; follow up, provide expertise, answer questions, and deal with any issues relating to GBV trainings
    • Work with OCASI teams to deliver high quality trainings; coordinate activities to avoid duplication of work
    • Evaluate projects, identifying areas for improvement and recommending further actions
    • Facilitate off-line sessions, focus groups, advisory meetings to gather feedback and collect information needed to evaluate projects. Analyze evaluations, develop recommendations, and support implementation of program improvements.
    • Develop project budget; administer project funds and monitor the budget; prepare cheque requisitions in accordance with set procedures for approval by the manager
    • Prepare narrative and evaluative reports on project(s) progress
    • Provide support to Professional Development & Training Manager in hiring GBV staff, budgeting, developing new proposals, work supervision, coaching and mentoring, and leading special initiatives
    • Maintain updated knowledge base of issues related to all aspects of the newcomer settlement process
    • Contribute to a healthy and safe environment for oneself and others and complies with all safe working procedures and instructions including OCASI's policies and procedures
    • Create a safe and supportive learning environment
    • Embrace and actively uphold OCASI's mission, equity, access, anti-racism and anti-oppression principles
    • Other duties as assigned

    Required Qualifications

    • Post secondary degree in Women's Studies, Education, Social Work, Counseling, Immigration Studies, or a related field, or equivalent experience in the non-profit sector focusing on gender-based violence (GBV) issues.
    • Minimum 5 years of coordinator experience in immigrant services or relevant community services with a focus on GBV issues.
    • Proficiency in online curriculum development and facilitation, along with the ability to maintain a GBV Community of Practice.
    • Extensive knowledge of GBV challenges faced by newcomers, immigrants, and refugees.
    • Proven ability to employ trauma-informed, decolonial, and intersectional approaches when working with newcomer communities and survivors of GBV. Experience in implementing culturally sensitive practices and understanding the intersectionality of identities is required.
    • Integration of equity, access, and anti-racism knowledge to prevent replicating oppressive power dynamics in program activities.
    • Expertise in developing curriculum related to violence against women, including sexual and gender-based violence and trafficking.
    • Strong communication, presentation, and editorial skills, both verbal and written.
    • Excellent research skills, capable of analyzing, organizing, and sharing large amounts of information effectively.
    • Detail-oriented with organizational prowess, able to meet tight deadlines and demanding schedules.
