    Position Purpose:
    Reporting to the Supervisor, academic administration, plans, organizes and co-ordinates additional qualification (AQ) and additional basic qualification (ABQ) courses offered by the Professional Development Program (PDP) at the Faculty of Education. Co-ordinates accreditation of these courses to ensure that they comply with Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) requirements. Updates PDP information on the faculty website, develops new initiatives and co-ordinates course promotion.

    In this role, your responsibilities will be:

  • Plans, organizes and co-ordinates PDP course offerings based on different delivery modes for the terms in question. Working with contact people in the field, determines professional development needs. Determines needs for instructors based on scheduled courses and registration. Organizes and co-ordinates evaluation of professional development initiatives.
  • To achieve continual improvement, working with other managers, designs and updates work tools facilitating effective communication, candidate registration and follow-up necessary for smooth program operations.
  • Co-ordinates updates of course syllabi, including courses for school principals, ensuring Ontario College of Teachers course accreditation. Hires and supervises course syllabus creation experts as needed.
  • Ensures recruitment of PDP course instructors, in accordance with collective agreement provisions, policies and established procedures. To do so, organizes information sessions for those interested, prepares and updates application kits, prepares position postings, receives proposals, assesses applications and makes hiring recommendations. Updates a data base containing contact information for instructors qualified to give the various courses. Co-ordinates updates of online courses and creation of accounts to access them. Sets up courses in the Brightspace online learning environment and ensures staff is trained on using this platform.
  • Serves as a contact person for the Academic Office regarding registration requirements and procedures. Responds to requests, oral or written, for information about the program. Working with the Academic Office, advises candidates on interpretation of Ministry of Education or Ontario College of Teachers accreditation requirements.
  • Helps develop a full annual promotional plan for the Professional Development Program, including courses for school principals: works with the manager, academic administration, and the manager, marketing and communications, to update or develop promotional and educational documentation. Assists in developing and reviewing PDP web content.

  • Recent experience in designing, leading, analyzing and organizing projects

  • Experience in supervising a team
  • Experience in budget planning
  • Knowledge of the criteria governing professional development within an educational institution
  • Knowledge of Ontario College of Teachers professional development programs and regulations
  • Knowledge of Ontario's educational system, the Ontario school network and the Franco-Ontarian community
  • Hands-on knowledge of computer systems, databases, word processing and electronic spreadsheets (Microsoft 365, Talisma, Brightspace, etc.)
  • Public speaking skills
  • Strong communication skills to establish and maintain good interpersonal relationships
  • Skills in writing correspondence, official reports and forms
  • Bilingualism — French and English (oral and written)
