    Aviva has an excellent opportunity within our Central Technical Unit for an AVP, Business Analytics - Reinsurance & Exposure Management. You will lead the reinsurance and exposure management strategic agenda, ensuring Aviva understands our exposure and provide the right reinsurance coverage for our business.

    Execute and implement best practice reinsurance strategy and exposure management for Aviva Canada. Coach and mentor team of Reinsurance Claims and Placement specialists. Ensure that regulatory principles are embedded, and appropriate loss control guidelines are rooted in workflows and framework. Establish measures and controls to ensure compliance with corporate governance and federal/provincial regulations.

    What you'll do

  • As part of the Aviva Canada Commercial Lines CTU, identify and manage all insurance-related risk for all of North America including, but not limited to, concentration of risk, risk segment, natural disasters and reinsurance.
  • Develop and execute the Reinsurance and Exposure Management strategy for Aviva Canada.
  • Accountable for technical capabilities of a reinsurance claims and placement team.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain the exposure management best practices to support pricing and capacity utilization decisions at the point of underwriting.
  • Measure and monitor aggregating exposures (not limited to natural perils).
  • Enhance our reporting capabilities and infrastructure (e.g. regular, ad-hoc, event monitoring).
  • Develop, measure and report RDSs (e.g. terrorism, cyber, casualty, economic).
  • Maintain current knowledge of research updates in the field of catastrophe risk and emerging risk.
  • Lead and manage engagement with our external suppliers of modelling services.
  • Maintain current knowledge of model updates and technology improvements.
  • Understand and communicate the model and infrastructure options.
  • Collaborate and communicate across the business with various stakeholders to ensure the vision is achieved.
  • Provision of exposure data to support treaty placement and regulatory reporting Manage aggregations of risk and ensure aligned reinsurance purchase.
  • Embed a risk culture within Aviva.
  • Support the annual Aviva Commercial Lines planning process by providing technical and qualitative input.
  • Support regulatory compliance with regular attestation and evidencing.
  • Ensure the skills of the CTU, GCS and SME Underwriting and Reinsurance teams remain leading edge.
  • Coaching and development of team members.

    • What you'll bring

  • 5-10 years of relevant technical experience in underwriting, pricing, reinsurance including 5+ years of experience in commercial insurance.
  • Undergraduate degree & FCIP, FCAS, FCIA or equivalent designation.
  • Proven experience in reinsurance and exposure management/catastrophe risk modelling.
  • Experience with Reinsurers.
  • Deep knowledge of natural peril models.
  • Knowledgeable of corporate and specialty risk classes.
  • Strong financial disciplines & statistical capability.
  • Understanding of capital modelling process.
  • Innovative and proven ability to drive through change.
  • Ability to challenge & influence business decisions.
  • Knowledge of regulatory environment and provincial rate filing requirements.
  • An understanding of finance, economics, accounting, investment and insurance principles.
  • Understanding of risks faced by GI business and the controls to manage and mitigate the risks.
  • Ability to think long term strategically and operationally.
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to work closely with other senior executives in the development and implementation of creative and strategic ideas.
