Our Rail Signalling and Communication systems are used on metro lines across major cities, and 72,000 kms of route, 52,000 trains per day in 16 countries are controlled by our Traffic Management Systems.
Together We deployed the first-ever nationwide ticketing system which processes over 50 million ticketing transactions in 100 cities daily. We are looking for a System Design Specialist to join our team in BurnabyThe successful candidate will perform system design, network design, analysis, modelling/simulation/testing to specify communication-based train control systems.
They will develop and define system design features to meet Customer requirements; analyze and evaluate designs to verify compliance with system technical requirements and develop and define Subsystems requirements.
There will be potential to support customer field testing and cutover plans, as well as support performing field testing and post log analysis.
Analyze and evaluate system performance and prepare associated technical deliverable. Design and configure communication networks meeting customer and industry requirements for throughput and security.You will be accountable for performing the design work correctly, within cost and schedule limits, as defined in approved work packages.
The work is typically defined by the Work Package Manager, and/or Manager.The System Design Specialist typically works with a team to define what will be designed, how it will perform and how it will be determined that it is working correctly.
Key Responsibilities:
Converts customer (internal and/or external) requirements into conceptual designs and prepares associated documentation by performing operational analyses, simulations and technical trade-off studies evaluating alternative design configurations and functional features
Similarly creates new concepts or modifies existing concepts to fulfil customer requirements
Prepares system, subsystem, and interface requirement specifications by analyzing, decomposing modelling and refining customer requirements and typical train control domain requirements
Prepares Operational Concept Document
Performs technical/engineering tasks to define system design, subsystem requirements, application databases for various subsystems (i.e. Hardware, Software, Networking, Cybersecurity)
Analysis and simulations are performed as necessary to identify design feasibility and driving requirements
Prepares and supports bids and proposals, including customer requirements compliance assessment, gap analysis, architecture design, simulation, trade-off of key features, estimation, etc.
Presents technical design and reports to customers and/or other engineering/management groups in clear, complete, concise and non-ambiguous termsDefines or proposes updates of processes and standards covering the work and its products based on the knowledge of systems engineering and/or his technical specialty
Operational design limits are evaluated and defined; performance analyses and simulations are developed and performed to support the above
Ensure the signalling design is implemented in accordance with applicable standards and signaling principles
Interface and build strong working relationships with Software, Hardware, Test groups to ensure timely analysis and resolution of in-house and field test issue
Required Skills and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a closely related field
Any relevant experience in development of software-based System applications
Knowledge of modern software engineering practices, methods and tools
Knowledge of systems development life cycle
Excellent technical writing and communication skills
Good marketing and presentation skills
Strong planning and organizational skills
Experience in using DOORS, Polarian, Data Analytics, Power Query, PowerBI, JIRA, Schedule tools, etc.
Work package management
System engineering expertise
Planning and organizational skills
Preferred Skills and Experience:
Professional Engineer's Licence (P.Eng.), Project Management Professional (PMP), International Council on Systems Engineering (INCOSE)
Strong application (automated train control systems) domain knowledge & knowledge of systems engineering principles and practices
Ability to sell/defend product to customers with differing levels of knowledge about automated systems
