    Position Type: Part-time

    The Mabin School is a small, progressive, innovative independent school (JK-Grade 6) located in central Toronto recognized for its excellence in nurturing empathy, leadership, team-work, and problem-solving. Achieving academic excellence and honouring student interests are always at the centre of the inquiry-based learning in the Mabin classroom. All aspects of the child's development — social, emotional, intellectual, and physical — are considered and given equal importance by our exceptional faculty.

    This position reports to the Principal or her delegate and offers an excellent opportunity for an individual who enjoys working with children, parents, teachers and community members to develop and supervise an after-care program for students. The program will be offered daily from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. An assistant will work alongside the Extended Care Coordinator on a daily basis to deliver the program.

    Flexible in nature, the Coordinator will develop programming and respond to opportunities as they emerge. This position requires an individual who is creative, energetic and a self-starter. The Coordinator should have experience working with children from JK to Grade 6 and demonstrate a knowledge and understanding of the needs of various age groups as well as a sensitivity to individual needs. The key responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Maintain and supervise an extended care program for children from JK to Grade 6.
  • Long-term planning of daily programming, including activities and snacks.
  • Ability to offer a program which continues to address a variety of interests, including but not limited to indoor/outdoor activities, sports, arts and crafts, cooking and drama.
  • Effective communication methods with parents and teachers.
  • Special programming on early dismissal days and PD Days.
  • Interest and willingness to participate and contribute to all school activities and special events.
  • First aid training and knowledge of child health and safety.
  • Maintenance of records to support student attendance. These records will provide the necessary information to invoice on a timely basis.
  • Camps for Mabin students on p.d. days and during the summer
  • Recruitment and supervision of volunteer helpers, especially alumni

    • Experience and other requirements:

  • Experience working with children at camps or in recreational environments is an asset
  • Creativity, a passion for working with children and a sense of fun
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, exemplary communication and organizational, skills
  • Commitment to the school's vision and mission
  • Be enthusiastic, energetic, reliable, responsible, and positive
  • Able to thrive in a collaborative, flexible and supportive environment
  • OCT/ECE qualifications are an asset, but not required. People with OCT/ECE credentials will be given an opportunity to join our occasional teacher list as well to augment their hours
