THE CANADIAN REPORT
Friday (April I)

Just heard that the Ukrainians snuck into Russia while Putin
was gettin’ his beauty rest and bombed the shit out of a fuel
depot. A military, not civilian target. Let's hope they do more
of that and cripple Russia's ability to kill their civilians.

TRUCKERS, COVID AND THE PM
So yesterday our PM, good old Justin Trudeau announced a
whole lot of economic goodies in the new Liberal budget. |
didn’t hear the part where we go further into debt to
finance it. But it made a good sound byte and he really
needed one of those. Especially after all the flack he caught
from Conservative dipsticks over the way he treated the
poor idiot truckers who were so sincere in their protests
that they clogged up the downtown core of Ottawa and
drive all the residents there up the wall.

But hey, it was a matter of personal freedom, they ex-
claimed. Try telling that to my wife and the thousands of
other asthmatics in the country for whom a case of Covid is
pretty much a death sentence.

| have no patience for idiots and these people proved
that's what they were. They didn't bother to get somebody
with enough clout to get a freakin’ meeting with the PM.
They just moved in and set up their barbecues, all the time,
under the mistaken impression that their very presence and
the nuisance value it created would open all the doors that
needed opening.

Well the doors didn't open. In fact they slammed shut,
because like the US, the Canadian government doesn't
negotiate with terrorists, and that's what this looked like.
You can argue they had a right to peacefully protest, and |
would agree. But this wasn't a protest it was an occupation.
And there were more people pissed off about it than there
were people who supported it.

But the bottom line is the government was only acting on
the best advice they were getting at the time. And of course
everybody's got an opinion about that. Only true thing is
that this whole pandemic has been a colossal mess from
start to finish. A bunch of truckers clogging up the streets of
Ottawa only added to the chaos in a relatively small way.

For a very sticky subject, that was a reasonable comment.

The Story of Patent Leather Shoes.
