    Description

    The Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre is an ethno specific long-term care facility located in Etobicoke. We are committed to providing excellence in service delivery in a setting that is sensitive and respectful to the cultural and spiritual needs of the residents: Ukrainian – Canadian seniors.

    The Program Assistant will work closely with the Recreation staff and other departments at the Ukrainian Canadian Care Centre within the COVID-19 Pandemic directives, rules and regulations for the Long Term Care Homes as directed by the Ministry of Health, Health Ontario, Toronto Public Health and others.

    Tasks and Responsibilities:

    You will report to the Manager of Programs and or her substitute and be responsible for a range of activities including:

    • Interact effectively with residents, interdisciplinary teams, essential caregivers during the programming process in order to meet group and individual goals within the context of the pandemic directives and regulations
    • Assist with sanitizing equipment before and after programs and activities
    • Assist with documenting programs and activities with residents
    • Assist with setting up and cleaningafter programs and activities.
    • Assist and support the Recreation staff with the residents' programs and activities including:
      • portering of residents,
      • 1:1 visitation for social interaction,
      • setting up independent activities for residents
      • assisting with telephone calls/virtual communication with families,
      • Meal service and feeding assistance
    • Follow the PPE procedures in place and the Occupational Health and Safety Act in all job duties

    The successful applicant will possess:

    • Knowledge of Recreation, Activation, Health Sciences or Gerontology
    • Good Communication skills and Excellent computer skills (including Microsoft Applications)
    • Organizational and time management skills
    • General knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Issues

    This is a 35 hrs. per week placement for a period of 8 weeks and applicants must be able to work flexible hours and days. Hourly rate: $ 17.00 plus 4% vacation pay.

    Please note: In order to qualify for this placement, applicants must be between 18 and 30 years of age; -a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and; -have a valid SIN and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
