    Under the direction of the Assistant Director High Performance, the Head Coach / Program Manager (CPM) of a U SPORTS program is fully responsible for coaching and long-term program development.

    The CPM will manage the program with resources provided by the Service which support the essential components of the program to ensure the academic and athletic progression and success of the student-athletes and is responsible for the introduction, education, delivery and evaluation of the sport specific program.

    The CPM will also be actively involved in assisting the Service in building community support to fundraise for program resources that will enhance the student-athlete experience and build alumni relations as well as community outreach program that will reflect positively on the University's presence locally.


    Primarily these duties are:

    Plan, prepare, implement and evaluate the annual competitive objectives, training cycles schedule of practice sessions and competitions events within the context of a fully developed yearly training plan.

    Lead annual schedule of required team meetings for all ancillary sport program services, academic monitoring and player evaluations.

    Design, develop, implement and evaluate a recruitment strategy to respond to the needs of the eligibility cycle and to maximize performance.

    Develop, with the assistance of the technical coaching staff, tools to realize the achievement of the program objectives to include annual training and practice plans, game wining style of play and supporting tactical systems, game analysis and performance metrics tools

    The CPM is responsible for year-round leadership and operational implementation for the long-term stability, development and success of the U SPORTS program.

    Develop, implement and evaluate the program's long-term sport development and strategic plan on the basis of a Sport Gap analysis.

    Complete a yearly evaluation of the team's training plan, performance and operational plan.

    Liaise with the Assistant Director Programs to complete the program's annual competitive schedule, establish the program's annual calendar of events, and confirm the allotted facility requirements for training, competition and special events.

    Actively and positively participate in global administrative processes and structures within sports services.

    Liaise with the Student Athlete Services Officer regarding the support and guidance of student-athlete scheduling, academic performance, mentoring requirements, counseling and the allocation of Athlete Financial Awards.

    Manage the inventory of sport equipment and acquisition needs.
    Marketing, Communications and community outreach – (10%).

    Working in partnership with the Sports Services Communications and Marketing team, the CPM is responsible for assisting in the promotion of the U SPORTS Program to both the internal and external communities.

    Establish and coordinate approved program-specific fundraising initiatives (excluding any sponsorship or commercial activities) in accordance with Sport Services guidelines.

    Assist the Assistant Director, Communications and Marketing in providing information for the web site, programs, tickets and other promotional materials while meeting the graphics standards of the University of Ottawa.

    Provide the Sports Information Coordinator with all sport-specific data required for annual media support and information.
    Facilitate the involvement of the U SPORTS Program's student-athletes in community outreach and on-campus promotions.

    Actively engage with the alumni relation & development officer (ARDO) in the design an implementation of the alumni relation plan for their program.

    3-5 years' previous full time coaching experience.
    ~ Strong technical knowledge and background of the sport acquired through practical experience and coaching at a highly competitive level.
    ~ Experience in using computer systems and software pertinent to the program management and sport analysis
    ~ English essential with bilingualism (spoken and written) in English and French would be an asset.
    ~ This position requires that the incumbent work evenings and weekends in accordance with practice and league schedules.
