Director, Communications, Federation of Canadian Municipalities - Ottawa, Canada - Odgers Berndtson
Description
Le français suit.
Founded in 1901, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) is the national voice of municipal government. With over 2,000 members including Canada's largest cities, small urban and rural communities, and 20 provincial and territorial municipal associations, FCM represents over 90 per cent of Canada's population. Headquartered in Ottawa, FCM is one of the most respected and effective advocacy organizations in Canada. A non-profit, member-first organization, FCM advocates for municipal priorities at the federal level and delivering capacity-building tools and programs.
Reporting to the Executive Director, Policy and Public Affairs, the Director, Communications develops and leads on the organization's communication and media strategy and monitors, evaluates, and responds to political and public interest in issues that may affect them. The Director collaborates with cross-organizational teams to design and implement appropriate political and communications interventions on identified priorities and emerging issues. The Director ensures the development, implementation and monitoring of an integrated communication and media strategy designed to promote the advocacy and policy objectives of the organization, support members' engagement, and maximize the impact of the organization in the federal political landscape. In advancing FCM's objectives, the Director will embody FCM's commitment to being a healthy, diverse, inclusive, and anti-racist organization.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative and strategic leader known for their exceptional communication skills, strong business acumen and ability to develop and implement outreach, media relations and engagement strategies in both English and French language. You will have a strong appreciation for membership organizations, the municipal world, relevant federal and municipal government institutions, and regional issues. The key to success in the role will be the ability to deliver engaging content while balancing multiple priorities and being adaptable to a rapidly changing and fast paced environment. The successful candidate will be an innovative communicator with an advocacy mindset who enables their team to deliver on a broad communications portfolio including media, digital and content creation. Demonstrable experience building, coaching and supporting large, diverse, equitable and inclusive teams round out the requirements for this role.
