WHILE WALKING

You're in for a Shock if you Must Text and Walk

I didn't realise that being a pedestrian on a busy street or shopping mall these days was so potentially hazardous to my health, until I was recently forced to swerve several times in the space of less than a minute, to avoid being trampled by one or other tactless taciturn texti ...

Kicked off Facebook

This morning I checked my social media accounts and found out I was kicked off Facebook for up to 90 days. I guess the guys who run the site didn't like something I posted. Oh Well! · When I talked to someone who has some experience programming online games later on at breakfast ...

Starting Over

I haven't written anything in my blog for a while. Not much I want to remember about last year. Then I lost my phone last month and when I logged on to one of the social media platforms I use all my information was erased. Lucky for me I have my blog posts backed up. It's strange ...

The Futility Of It All

There’s an hour or so in the morning when I am starting to wake up and my mind starts transgressing from dream state to reality. This is when  things are very clear.

This morning was one of those days when the clarity was like a slap in the face. This morning I realized that no matter how hard I try, no matter how many posts and memes I create, how many readers I get, whatever,  I am either only singing to the choir or butting up against the intractable mindsets of the people who disagree with me.

It got me wondering about the nature of influence, and whether in this day and age of polarization, it actually exists anymore.  Do we really influence each other, do we change minds, do we enlighten anyone? Or does all the stuff we put out there simple blow around in the ether until  it disappears from sight and mind?

Can I make you believe that you should be vaccinated against a virus that will make you a spreader it or make you very sick and even could kill you, once you have made up your mind that the whole thing is just some sort of elaborate scheme to enslave you somehow?

Can I convince you that the that climate change is already real and manifesting itself all over the world if you think it’s a hoax, and that all of these incidents are merely part of the way weather normally works?

I no longer believe that I can because, from what I have experienced,  people are dug into belief trenches so deep that they couldn’t climb out even if they wanted to.

This is the dry rotting slow death of the human race in its early stages. And there is really nothing anyone can do about it, when so many people have become fastened to their positions, making universal agreement on anything impossible, which is really how change will come about these days.

I still have a few good years left on this planet. And I can no longer see wasting any more time on trying to change people’s minds. I will not stop poking the beast, however, but I will pick my opportunities more carefully, and just for self-gratification.  But mostly I will just carry on posting about the things I love, my family, my work, my creative life and my therapy.

I’m sad to leave these arenas behind. It was, at the very least, a lot of fun and good intellectual exercise. But all things must pass. And I really can’t see myself continuing to be part of the futility of it all.
