    Description

    Employee and Labour Relations Advisor will provide guidance and advice on various employee relations matters to enable the strategic development of the people practices, while ensuring compliance to relevant employment legislation and collective agreements.

    As a subject matter expert, Employee and Labour Relations Advisor provides the HR Managers and organizational leaders with expert advice on complex and/or high-risk labour relations matters. The incumbent will work closely with the HR team and Operational areas to support the surfacing of employee concerns/needs in support of our People Everything Philosophy; seeking to resolve concerns, create a harmonious working environment, and to ensure staff needs are understood and met.

    Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

    Labour Relations

    · Provide labour relations consultation, advice and support to HR team and Company leaders with unionized staff regarding employee discipline, job selection process, schedule changes, workplace investigations, grievances, grievance arbitrations/mediations and termination process.

    · Provide guidance on the interpretation, application, and administration of Collective Agreements to HR team and Company leaders as necessary.

    · Conduct Step One and Step Two grievances grievance hearings and prepare written responses.

    · Provide training to HR team and Company leaders on effective management in a Unionized environment.

    · Support Union-Management committees as required for the maintenance of harmonious labour relations; act as point of contact for Union Representatives.

    · Promote and foster a consultative and problem-solving labour relations approach.

    Employee Relations

    · Consult with leaders as a resource to develop strategies to address employee issues of concern.

    · Review metrics to identify trends and recommend solutions that align with our HR Strategic Goals.

    · Conduct full-scope, complex employee relations investigations including fact finding, conducting interviews, and preparing reports.

    Collective Bargaining

    · Gather information and prepare for negotiations.

    · Participate as a member of the Employer's bargaining team.

    · Advise management on negotiated contract changes.

    · Create and execute an implementation plan after ratification.

    Legislative Compliance

    · Coach, guide, and advise leaders on legal and compliance matters, adherence to all relevant legislation, policies and procedures and the Collective Agreement.

    General

    · Actively participate in the Company's Safety Management System.

    · Perform additional duties as assigned.

    Minimum Education, Experience and Certifications

    · Indigenous and Cultural Awareness Training considered an asset.

    · Must be able to obtain and maintain any applicable transportation security clearances and additional authorizations.

    · Post-secondary degree in Human Resources.

    · CPHR designation or working towards.

    · Minimum of 4 years of HR and LR experience in a unionized environment.

    · Experience as a member of the collective bargaining team.

    · Excellent organizational and creative problem-solving abilities.

    · Thorough knowledge of employment and labour relations legislation; including the Canada Labour Code, Canadian Human Rights Act, and other applicable pieces of employment legislation.

    · Thorough knowledge of grievance and arbitration processes.

    · Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.

    Working Conditions

    · Physically able to perform all listed job duties.

    · Travel by aircraft and other means as required by role.

    · Work performed primarily in an office environment.

    · Manual dexterity required to use desktop computer and telephone.

    · Physical location of position is only accessible via a flight of stairs.

    · Company phone will be provided for after-hour inquiries.

    · Ability to attend offsite work events as required (e.g. job fairs).
