    The Sovereign General Insurance Company is looking for a dynamic individual to join our National Resource Practice Team. The successful candidate will be adept at analyzing risks and providing creative solutions to brokers, is driven to achieve impressive results while influencing and inspiring others to do the same with a desire to provide exceptional customer service to our brokers. In this role you will underwrite National Resource Practice business in upstream and mid-stream oil and gas, power generation and utility operations, hard and soft rock mining, greenfield energy construction projects and emerging clean technology.

    How you will create impact:

  • Underwrite and manage a profitable book of new and renewal business.
  • Analysis of risk including understanding the technology and process, exposures, and risk mitigation controls.
  • Engage Specialists and Risk Engineering for collaboration.
  • Analyze wording to ensure terms and conditions are appropriate.
  • Promote National Resource Practice core appetite, products, and capabilities externally through broker distribution channels.
  • Develop and maintain positive and mutually beneficial broker relationships.
  • Monitor broker results to identify areas of opportunity.
  • Support learning and development to stay abreast of energy transition and emerging technologies.
  • Support continuous improvement and product development by providing constructive feedback and insights on product offerings, tools, and resources.

    • To join our team:

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of Commercial Underwriting experience.
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation; Canadian Risk Management (CRM) or Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (FCIP) is an asset.
  • Knowledge in Oil & Gas, Mining, Power Property and Reinsurance placement required.
  • Advanced decision making and problem-solving skills in underwriting and technical knowledge.
  • Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, competent doing research and collaborating with other underwriters, risk engineering and reinsurers.
